Spinal Decompression
Spinal Decompression Therapy is a noninvasive therapy that can provide a lot of relief. This is a motorized traction therapy that will take pressure off the discs in your spine. The discs are the cushions between each vertebra.
When a disc becomes herniated, these discs become compressed and their gelatinous-type filling may become pushed out of the disc itself. A disc that is out of place can also put pressure on the nerves in the area causing other painful conditions.
Since 2002, Dr. Tiffani Fries has been offering Spinal Decompression Therapy to help her patients relieve the pressure experienced from herniated discs, pinched nerves, and other areas. Spinal Decompression is an effective complement to spinal adjustment for patients whose situation involves injuries and conditions outside the spectrum of normal wellness.
What Can You Expect from Spinal Decompression?
During the treatment, you will lay down on a table and Dr. Fries will position your hips. You will then have a harness placed around your hips to hold you in place. The top of the table will remain motionless while the bottom part of the table will move pulling on the harness and therefore stretching your spine.
Once pressures are relieved from this treatment, the normal oxygen and fluids that flow in and out of healthy discs can resume. The nerve impulses that may have been blocked will be once again flowing between the nerves, the brain, and other body systems.
Benefits of Spinal Decompression
- Pressure is lifted off herniated or bulging discs. This allows for the pain to decrease and the discs to regain their form.
- Once the pressure is lifted from the discs, the nerves in the area will also be relieved of things that are impeding their normal function. This allows for the balance to return to the nervous and musculoskeletal systems.
- As the discs and nerves begin to heal, you will experience greater mobility and flexibility. Your range of motion will be restored.
- The therapy will also make it so that your spinal adjustments will be smoother.
Frequently Asked Questions
Spinal Decompression Therapy is not a painful treatment. You will feel a stretching sensation from the traction process that will ultimately bring a great deal of relief.
Each treatment session will last for approximately 30 to 45 minutes. It is usually recommended that you do 15 to 30 treatments for long term effectiveness.
Spinal Decompression Therapy is recommended for patients with bulging or herniated discs, or discs that have undergone degenerative changes. This therapy can also be helpful for patients suffering from pinched nerves.
