Leg & Knee

The most common knee pain is due to osteoarthritis and a condition called chondromalacia. Other pain that occurs in the legs and knees is frequently referred pain from other areas.

If you have leg & knee pain that is impacting your daily activities, you should be evaluated by a doctor. If the injury is not severe enough to merit surgery, a chiropractor can probably help you ease your discomfort.

Your chiropractor will start by determining where your pain is actually coming from. Various back and hip conditions can spread pain down into the leg and knee. If that is the source, then a spinal adjustment may help you feel better. Other causes can be helped as well. What Can You Expect from Leg & Knee Care?

If your leg and knee pain are from arthritis, then the goal will be to get you moving again. If the pain is from inflammation and tendonitis, you will need to rest for a couple of days before beginning treatment. This will give you time for the swelling to go down. If you need to wait, make sure that you use ice packs for the first couple of days.

If your knee pain is coming from a traumatic injury, then your chiropractic care will be a part of your physical therapy plan. Whenever there is an injury to the knee, it should be checked to make sure that it is not a serious one such as a torn ligament or tendon.

Frequently Asked Leg & Knee Questions

Chondromalacia is technically defined as softening of the cartilage. It most often affects the back of the patella or knee cap. This condition damages the patellar cartilage and is usually the result of the knee rubbing the wrong way from either injury or overuse. It does require a medical diagnosis, and if severe, may required surgery. It presents as pain experienced when walking, and climbing stairs or sitting cross-leg may make it worse.

Many times, your legs and knees hurt because of spinal issues. Your pain could come from Sciatica or from your back or hips being out of balance. When this is the cause, a simple spinal adjustment should take care of your leg and knee pain.

You can injure your knee pursuing any sort of athletic activity or exercise regimen. If you have a job where you are lifting correctly by using your knees, you could develop repetitive motion issues. As you age, you could develop arthritis in your knees.
