Chiropractic Adjustments

Chiropractic adjustments are at the heart of chiropractic treatments. When the vertebrae in the spine dislocate and get out of alignment it’s called a subluxation. Chiropractic Adjustments, or Spinal Manipulation, is when the Chiropractor applies a controlled, sudden force to the spinal joints in order to realign the spine and reduce the subluxation.

The adjustment may be done very gently, using a tool, or it may be a sudden jolt done manually with the chiropractor using their hands. It all depends on the situation and if you’ve had treatment before.

At Genesis Chiropractic, we are committed to helping our clients resume their pursuit of health, well-being, and a pain-free lifestyle. For more information about chiropractic adjustments, contact Dr. Tiffani Fries, here.

What Can You Expect from Chiropractic Adjustments?

During your treatment, Dr. Tiffani Fries and the experts at Genesis Chiropractic will give you a complete physical examination. If you have had x-rays or films, she will review those as well. From what she learns, she will know more about your individual situation.

With a typical adjustment, the chiropractor might use a tool known as an adjuster. If so, you will feel short painless pressure wherever it is used. If the adjustment is more manual, then you will feel your doctor applying pressure using her hands in short, sharp movements. You might hear a cracking sound as your vertebrae fall into place. In the case of chiropractic adjustment, the cracking sound is a good thing.

The Benefits of Chiropractic Adjustments

  • Better posture. Once the subluxations in your back are addressed you will be able to hold our head higher and your posture will be healthy.
  • Balance between the systems. The primary goal of chiropractic care is to balance the body's systems so that you can be a healthier you.
  • Decreased musculoskeletal and neurological pain. As the balance between these two systems is so intertwined, fixing a musculoskeletal issue will free the neurological system to send healthy messages to the other systems.
  • Better quality of life. Once your body is in balance, you can have a better quality of life. Your pain will decrease, your posture and gait improved, and any other issues corrected by your adjustment will be in a much better place.

Chiropractic Frequently Asked Questions

You may find that you are sore following your first adjustment depending on your condition that brought you to the appointment itself. If you are treating an injury, you may be more sensitive to them. Overall, the adjustments make you feel better and any feelings of discomfort during the adjustment will dissipate quickly.

This depends on each situation. If you see your chiropractor regularly, your body will be in a better state of balance than it would if this is your first time. If you are being treated for an injury, you will probably need some recovery time. If you are just starting out with your chiropractic journey, you may have some discomfort for a couple days and it is best to allow a little recovery and relaxation time after your adjustment. It is usually best to plan to relax following a chiropractic treatment so that the new balance from the adjustment can take hold.

Incorporating chiropractic adjustment into your wellness path means a continued commitment. In some cases a single adjustment will address an issue. However, in the pursuit of wellness, you might want to have regular appointments to help keep your body balanced.
